Good Companions by Frederick Morgan

Hello to all the lovely creatures out there!

In today's post we will be talking about a painting that I find absolutely adorable! It is titled Good Companions and was created in 1872 by the painter Frederick Morgan.

Frederick Morgan - Good Companions - 1872

The painting depicts a young woman cuddled up on her bed, reading a book while she is cruddling a small kitten in her arm. Although the space is quite specific (her bedroom most likely) and we have a limited view of her surroundings, the painter has depicted everything well enough to create a feeling of coziness and quietness of her own space.

The colour palette is simple, yet correlates well with each colour. Different tones and shades of colours like brown, white, creme with some pinches of blue and green shades create a comforting result. Everything blends harmonically with each other, and the same can be said about the tiny kitten. The colours of the skirt of the woman are similar to the pattern of the kitten's fur. It blends in with the rest of the painting, making it a nice detail since at first glance you do not catch the small kitten sitting there. Someone could say that the woman's porture could work without the kitten as well. Just laying relaxinlgy reading her book.

However, it is this detail of the kitten that creates the painting letting it be titled as ''Good Companions''. I personally find it quite adorable, as once your eye catches the kitten you are able to see the paiting throught a new look than before. For all the cat lovers out there, I believe it is a painting that will lead you to examine it once again because of the kitten. Moreover, it is a nice touch to know that just a small detail can catch your attention once more!

Thank you as always for reading and I will see you in a next post!
