Stress (Desplazados) by Yoan Capote
Hello to all the lovely creatures out there!
Today we will be discussing about a very interesting art installation called "Stress" by Yoan Capote.
Created back on 2019, "Stress" is an sculptural artowrk that visually represents the weight of phychological and emotional pressure. The piece consists of thousands of bronze-cast teeth, originally sourced from Cuban clinics and medical schools, sandwiched between two large blocks of concrete.
Sculptor Yoan Capote was inspired to create the piece (called Stress) as a result of his own experience with stress-induced teeth-grinding. The work is also “a monument to the collective experience of contemporary urban life”. Creating a powerful metaphor for resilience and struggle, the contrast between the massive weight of the concrete and the fragility of the teeth highlights the tension between endurance and vulnerability. Capote, a Cuban artist known for exploring themes of politics, human struggle, and societal constraints, uses "Stress" to evoke a sense of both physical and mental burden.
For anyone dealing with teeth grinding, pressure, and stress, I believe this sculpture is highly relatable. Capote effectively conveys the immense pressure society and we ourselves impose, while the teeth symbolize the fragile nature that remains within us. So if you are feeling stressed lately, remember, there are worse case scenarions like being stuck between concrete!
Thank you for reading as always, see you in the next post,
